In this day and age of digital media, it’s easy to forget the treasures that can be found at your local library. Of course, the convenience of downloading a book, magazine or movie directly to your tablet or phone offers instant access, and most libraries offer such an option. But there is still much to be said about the experience of physically holding a book in your hands and thumbing through the pages. If you agree, it’s time you paid a visit to the Hawley Library!
What Does the Hawley Library Offer?
The Hawley Public Library on Main Avenue is one of seven Wayne County Libraries. The Hawley Library lends books, audio books, DVDs, magazines and provides free Internet access. This location also offers several reoccurring events including Story Time for children, Lego Club, and the furry and fun opportunity for children to read to Tess and Twiggy. These two adorable dogs love to listen to kids read stories (and improve their reading!). Adults can also enjoy programs including book clubs, as well as quilting, knitting and other social groups.
Other Fun Events at the Hawley Library
Every year during the Hawley WinterFest, the library hosts a Soup Sale. This event gives locals the chance to enjoy a hot, homemade serving of soup (Roasted Tomato and Pike County Beef Barley, for starters) while supporting the library. The Annual Run to Read 5K is another local event that raises awareness and funds for the local library.
The Hawley Library is located less than a mile from the Hawley Silk Mill and the Cocoon Coffee House! It’s also within a mile of The Settlers Inn and Ledges Hotel, both fantastic places to stay if you are visiting the area.
