Historic & Hustling
The Hawley Silk Mill is a must-see. At 75,000 square feet, it’s the largest Bluestone structure in the world and once housed a thriving silk factory. On Thursdays, take a guided tour of the historic 1880 structure, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The mill was repurposed into a bustling lifestyle center that’s home to shops, an art gallery, fitness center and offices. Renowned architect Peter Bolin, who created the design for Apple’s stores, designed the Silk Mill’s first-floor Retail Center. Floor to ceiling glass partitions let an abundance of light flow through the space. The collection of fine shops offers an assortment of merchandise. Art on the Edge displays and sells distinctive home décor, clothing, furniture and gifts. Carmella Sarah Salon and Polished Possessions provide plenty of opportunities to be pampered with salon services. Looking Glass Art Gallery exhibits works from some of the region’s finest artists and you can often find owner/artist Juan Espino at work here on one of his own creations. Settlers Hospitality guests have access to the state-of-the art equipment at Lake Region Fitness. You can also take part in scheduled fitness classes such as kickboxing, boot camp, spin or yoga. Just outside, the building that once housed the cocoons for the silk mill, has been turned into a coffee house and bakery, aptly named Cocoon. It’s the place to be for fine, craft brewed coffee, savory sandwiches, decadent pastries, cakes, breads and desserts. Plus, you can shop here for locally-sourced foods such such as cheese, honey, jam, meat and eggs. On Fridays, from Columbus Day until Memorial Day, enjoy Bakery Bites at Cocoon Coffeehouse and Bakery.
Waterfront & Wonderful
Silver Birches is a lakefront resort on Lake Wallenpaupack. You can visit the Recreation Center during summer or fall to take out one of the resort’s kayaks, SUPs or canoes. Group SUP sessions are offered on Mondays and on Wednesdays, join a group kayak lesson. Other summertime wellness activities include lakeside yoga on Tuesdays and aqua Zumba on Thursdays. Every evening throughout the year there’s a special Sunset Champagne Toast. All that fresh air works up an appetite, so you can enjoy a picnic every Tuesday at noon during summer. On Thursday evenings, find a spot by the lakeside fire pit and indulge in s’mores. From Memorial Day until Columbus Day, Sunday’s Lakeside Live brings entertainment to The Deck on The Dock at Wallenpapuack, the resort’s restaurant. Activities move inside during winter. Take park in Wednesdays book swap or join the competition during PubOlympics on Thursday.
Charming & Traditional
Our sister property, The Settlers Inn, is situated on Main Street along the banks of the Lackawaxen River. Activities there take advantage of the property’s scenic grounds, thriving gardens and rich history. Experience a Canal Walk on Mondays. The guided tour explores the remnants of the D & H Canal that are located on the grounds. During summer and fall, Fridays bring a guided Trail Walk while an English Garden Tour on Saturdays offers the opportunity to explore the Inn’s lovely manicured gardens in-depth. Daily Wine Tastings let you sample vintages from the restaurant’s award-winning wine list while you learn more about the diverse world of wine. The Settlers Inn is known for its farm-to-table restaurant. Enjoy an extraordinary meal and live entertainment during Jazz on the Deck every Wednesday throughout summer or live piano music on Saturdays year-round. Cold-weather activities at The Settlers Inn tap into the wealth of history and flavors cultivated there. Enjoy mocktail and coffee tastings or find a place at the fireside history chats, which include a Chef’s Tasting.
Cool & Contemporary
Take some time to visit Ledges Hotel, adjacent to the Hawley Silk Mill. This glass factory turned boutique hotel has a cool contemporary atmosphere and views not found anywhere else in Hawley. On Tuesdays in summer, join in a guided River Walk. A yoga session every Sunday morning is held on the outdoor decks overlooking Paupack High Falls in warmer months. There are also daily cocktail tastings as well as live entertainment events such as Blues, Brews and BBQ every Sunday from Memorial Day until the end of August. Winter and spring bring the opportunities to hike or snowshoe along the River Walk Trail on Sundays. Then, warm up with a fireside history chat along with chef’s tasting.
