Summer fairs in the Pocono Mountains have been a tradition for over 100 years. With a midway teeming with thrill rides to classic pie competitions and decidedly decadent fair foods, the events are as iconic as the season itself. Here in the Pocono Mountains each county holds its annual fete. While you can expect the time-honored traditions at all, each has a personality all its own. Wayne County Fair
August 2-10, 2024
Over 160 years old and still going strong! Wayne County Fair is one of the best-known and most anticipated fairs in the Pocono Mountains. Thousands of visitors flood into the fairgrounds in Honesdale, PA during its nine-day run in early August. Tickets are pay one price admission, which includes parking, most shows and rides. Harness racing has been a staple attraction almost since the beginning. There are multiple races throughout the week. More recent crowd favorites on the schedule are a demolition derby, monster trucks and woodsmen competitions.
Carbon County Fair
August 5-10, 2024
Introduced over 20 years ago, the Carbon County Fair is relatively new, but it’s been growing steadily in popularity. The week-long event held in the second week of August is known for its family-oriented activities and displays. At the fairgrounds in Palmerton, visitors will find the midway of rides, agricultural displays and a full lineup of free entertainment.
West End Fair
August 18-24, 2024
Folks have been making a trip to this late August fair in Gilbert for over 100 years. In the 1970s the West End Fair exploded from a one-day fair to a week-long event. Agriculture and livestock remain the focus, but the West End Fair is also known for its midway, entertainment and abundance of food. Displays of antique tractors and engines are always a draw. Every paid admission includes one ride on the ever-popular carousel.
Greene-Dreher Sterling Fair
August 23-September 1, 2024
Every year at the end of August, the tiny village of Newfoundland expands to welcome visitors to the GDS Fair. It’s been that way for over 100 years. A local schoolteacher began the event to showcase her students’ handiwork and to educate the public about farm life. Today this is one of the summer fairs in the Pocono Mountains that blends old world crafts and artisan talent with modern amusement rides and craveable fair foods. Vendors are plentiful and offer everything from clothing and home décor to tools and toys. The fair runs for 10 days at the end of August with the last day always falling on the Sunday prior to Labor Day.
