4 Places for a Fantastic Waterfall Tour
People from all over the world flock to the Poconos just to get a glimpse of our stunning waterfalls. No matter what time of year it may be, you’ll want to add a waterfall tour to your Poconos itinerary. Or better yet, why not add them all? Here are some guest favorites that you’ll want to consider!
Bushkill Falls
Also known as the “Niagara of Pennsylvania,” Bushkill Falls is one of the Poconos’ most famous and beautiful attractions. After hiking deep into the woods, you’ll discover a series of 8 majestic cascades. There are several hiking trails to choose from and they cater to all skill levels. Aside from admiring the falls and embarking down the trails, you’ll also find a wide variety of family-friendly activities in the park including gem mining, paddle boating, mini-golf, and much more!
Buttermilk Falls
This 45-foot waterfall’s composition is unique from all other waterfalls in the region. Unlike most cascades, the layers of rock are made of sandstone and shale instead of more resistant stones. Buttermilk Falls is found in a 48-acre natural area that protects the unique plant and animal species of the Poconos. Therefore, most of the park is still left in its most natural state, granting visitors the opportunity to enjoy nature in its purest form.
Dingmans Falls
Towering at more than 130 feet, Dingmans Falls is the second highest waterfall in the state. The ledge spreads out across the entire rock face, causing the water to tumble in different directions. This creates a series of lovely cascades for you to see. The trail to the falls is open for hiking, birding, and nature trips and welcomes guests from May to September.
Raymondskill Falls
Raymondskill Falls is a three-tiered waterfall and also one of the tallest in Pennsylvania. In fact, if you were to add the length of all tiers together, it is just a few feet shorter than Niagara Falls! After a fairly brief and easy hike, you’ll be able to view the falls from two platforms! The upper viewing area provides a fantastic view of the upper pools and drops while the lower viewing area is the perfect place to take pictures of the falls.
