If you’re looking to accessorize your home or office with fine art paintings, look no further than the Looking Glass Art Gallery and Art on the Edge, both located in Hawley Silk Mill.
The Looking Glass
The Looking Glass features collector’s quality art work by artists from around the world and gallery owners Millie and Juan H. Espino take great pride in the exclusive excellence of the artists they represent. What began as a journey to showcase talented local artists has evolved in the jewel of a gallery nestled in picturesque Hawley, Pa., just waiting to be discovered by avid art collectors.
Art on the Edge
Contemporary sculpture, paintings and more will be on display and for sale in a newly remodeled 5,000 square foot space at the Hawley Silk Mill this summer. The “Art on the Edge” exhibit, hosted by the Wayne County Arts Alliance, will feature the most dynamic pieces from the roster of represented artists and will offer an informed cross-section of what is happening now in regional contemporary art.
In addition to the exhibit, Art on the Edge will be featuring a weekly series of special after-hours events on Friday and Saturday nights, which will include Creative Cocktail Hour and French Woods Performing Arts specials. Be sure to check the events calendar at the Hawley Silk Mill for all of the latest information and events.
How to Select a Fine Art Painting
Now that you know where to go to purchase fine art paintings, you may need some help deciding what to select.
Here are a few tips:
First, decide what kind of art you like. If you’re just getting into art, this will take some time to determine. We recommend spending some time at the local galleries to study the exhibits, ask questions and simply see what appeals to you. You might be overwhelmed at first by the various periods, mediums and styles, but this legwork will help you find the perfect piece for your office or home.
You’ll also need to understand that original artwork, including paintings, drawings, sculptures and more, will cost more than a production.
Perhaps the most helpful advice to a novice art-buyer may come from a Huffington Post article. Two tips we gleaned that are definitely worth passing along include:
1. “Buy what you love. Fine art should never be a ‘maybe’ and should thrill you every single day.”
2. “When you place art in your home there is only one opinion that matters: yours.”
About the Hawley Silk Mill
The Silk Mill in Hawley has been a vital part of this community since its construction in 1880. Its many incarnations over the years have included a silk factory with the foremost technology of the day, a textile factory and antique center. Never has it been more vibrant than today. The vision for the repurposed factory is to have a center that celebrates the lifestyle of the Pocono Lake Region – a place for the residents and visitors alike to shop, gather, eat, exercise, and learn.
